I first played this at Folk City in the very early 80's. I've rewritten bits and pieces of the verses, but the choruses are remained as written by that 19-year-old. In this year of insanity suddenly there is meaning that never was before in this one.
lyrics
Was half asleep
A midnight call came bringing thunder
Set fire to out lives
Shook the bedrock beneath our feet
What can we do
No place to hide, so deep within it
So much on my mind
Cheated out of their fare thee wells
So goodbye mama, and
Goodbye papa
I guess its time to go
How could we have known
Oh wo, mama goodbye
It's getting late
Hold my hand, we'll go together
The wind runs through my hair
I pray I fly upon angels' wings
So goodbye mama, and
Goodbye papa
I guess its time to go
How could we have known
Oh wo, mama goodbye
So goodbye mama, and
Goodbye papa
I guess its time to go
How could we have known
Oh wo, mama goodbye
Oh wo, mama goodbye
Oh wo, mama goodbye
