Another refitted older number. The lead off track on my first Deerheart release back in 2008, this song also dates back to the early 80's. The original recording was a bit of a mess, too much studio "sophistication" cluttered things and caused the song itself to be lost. Here its pared down to its essence and comes across quite nicely, I think. The bridge has a too-Springsteenian line (you'll know it when you hear it), but otherwise, I quite like it.
lyrics
Gina's wild, she's only sixteen, but she's got desperate dreams
J comes 'round in his busted blue jeans and he reads of gasoline
And they stay in whenever they can
And he kisses her cheek and he holds her hand and says
Someday Gina, we'll be married
Someday Gina, we're gonna be happy
Someday Gina, the night is still young
Someday
It's two weeks sine the line's been pink, there's thunder in her chest
She shudders, sighs, looks in their eyes and says I'm pregnant, I guess
Oh mommy please, you don't understand
He kisses my cheek and he holds my hands and says
Someday Gina, we'll be married
Someday Gina, we're gonna be happy
Someday Gina, the night is still young
Someday
We'll walk out in the rain tonight and wash our sins away
I promise things won't seem as bad come the light of day
Oh Gina don't you cry
His love will never die
But now you must decide
Do you want him deep inside
Do you want him now
Now they get out whenever they can
And he kisses her cheek and he holds her hand and says
Someday Gina, we'll be married
Someday Gina, we're gonna be happy
Someday Gina, the night is still young
Someday
Someday Gina, we'll be married
Someday Gina, we're gonna be happy
Someday Gina, the night is still young
Someday
The night is still young, someday
The night is still young, someday
The night is still young, someday
The night still is, the night is still young
The night still is, the night is still young
The night still is, the night is still young
